Educated at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design\, and the Art College of Kewlona\, Beth continues a daily studio practice. There is a quality of directness to Beth’s art\, bold strokes\, bright colours\, firm line\, but also a soft subtlety of light and atmosphere. This meeting of strong and subtle creates a conversation between elements; a dialogue between our inner and outer worlds. Beth is also a practitioner of yoga\, shamanism\, and nature meditation which influence her art making and subject material. Responding to what makes her feel most alive\, flowers\, abstracts\, and ocean landscapes always appear in her work. \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3084″ img_size=”full” css=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3088″ img_size=”full” css=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3706″ img_size=”full” css=””][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]

His current release\, Chasing the Sun\, finds the blues-rock singer-songwriter’s electrifying new album featuring the kind of towering musical guests typically found on the other side of velvet ropes. Co-produced by Colin Linden\, guest artists include Americana icon Lucinda Williams\, bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Charley Drayton (who have backed Miles Davis and The Rolling Stones) plus American harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite and gospel greats Ann and Regina McCrary. For over 35 years\, Colin has been a consummate professional\, a superb guitarist\, and a musician’s musician. The confidence that comes with maturity can be heard in his voice and seen in his electrifying stage performance. He does what comes naturally – he always has – he knows no other way and no other life. Recently celebrating his 60th birthday\, he still finds joy in making music and touring and loves what he does. \n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Alongside these macro issues is a window on the daily trials of a technologically compromised ADHD addled adult\, who came of age in a day when a ‘hash tag’ was something you got after getting too close to the hash knives! Whether getting comedic mileage with classic bits on generational differences in families then and now; teacher terrors of public-school days; hand me-down hockey gear; party hearty camping trips with pals in those ‘bullet proof days of yore’\, there’s something for everybody. ‘Ultimately though\, ‘The Noise Between Our Ears’ sees Ron as the ever struggling ‘Everyman’\, doing his best to make sense of a world off kilter while bedeviled by forces beyond his control\, where airlines constantly lose luggage\, stock portfolios nosedive\, mortality’s the new reality and the barber spends more time trimming your ears than he does your head! \n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1760815487831{margin-top: 0px !important;}” el_class=”littlelarger”] \n \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The Astor is pleased to present her exhibition. “The Art of Maya Smith\,” through November 2025. \n“Most of my art is of birds and animals because\, since I was a child\, they have been my friends and teachers. I create my art from this deep love and connection to nature. I have always had an attention to detail and colour\, and this is shown in my art\, which I create using either colored pencils\, pastels or oils. I love the fine detail I can get working with colored pencils\, and I often work 8 to 12 layers deep\, allowing the different colours to build up using translucent\, oil-based Prismacolor pencils. I also love the rich colours I get with pastels\, since they are basically pure pigment\, and over time\, I have learned to achieve the detailed work I desire with pastels. I am very grateful to be able to share my expression of love for all these beautiful ‘Beings’ with you.” – Maya Smith \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3084″ img_size=”full” css=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3088″ img_size=”full” css=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3706″ img_size=”full” css=””][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]

She began her artistic journey in the field of graphic art and now focuses primarily on painting. She grew up in Cape Breton and currently lives on the beautiful south shore of Nova Scotia. Her works are available from her home gallery in Brooklyn\, at the Gallery on Lincoln in Lunenburg and ArtSpace 106 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Her current show\, Colours of the Atlantic\, includes her classic abstract realism water scenes\, some with a skyline and some without\, and a couple of experimental pieces. \n“I want my art to catch your eye. I want you to be drawn to the brilliant greens\, the swirling white foam and the mysterious dark depths. I want you to feel the movement\, the undulating waves\, the enigma of the sea.”- Mj Dominy \nVisit The Astor from September 3rd to 30th to see her beautiful artwork Tuesday to Saturday\, 11 am -4pm. \n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]
